This specification defines a transport protocol that emulates the semantics of a long-lived, bidirectional TCP connection between two entities (such as a client and a server) by efficiently using multiple synchronous HTTP request/response pairs without requiring the use of frequent polling or chunked responses.

PubSub est un mécanisme permettant de publier des informations et d'envoyer des notifications lors d'évènements tels que la publication d'un contenu.

Transfer Methods. This is at the core of REST and ROA and is the foundation of Web-Oriented Architecture. You can read Roy Fielding's chapter on REST (he conceived of the approach originally) or you can just follow the simple guidelines here. At other times, protocols like BitTorrent can be used if the requirements warrant it, but these are exceptional scenarios that I will cover at some point in the future.

Diki is a peer-to-peer (or better: friend-to-friend) network for social semantic web application. Think of it as an instant messenger program for social networks like del.icio.us, bibsonomy, citeseer, facebook or studivz. Unlike those social networks, diki does not have a central server that stores your private data. The idea of diki is to create a social network that respects the users' privacy but giving them all functionality that server-based social networks have. In the current release you can create bookmarks, tag them and invite friends. Then you can search for bookmarks in your friends-network.

Many web resources provide mechanisms for subscribing to changes in their content. However, this change information is only made available via a polling mechanism.

A number of people have proposed mechanisms for subscribing to updates to pages or feeds, however, a missing element of all these proposals is a subscription mechanism. Sadly, this means that every site supporting this feature will likely end up with a different implementation.

Building an XMPP-enabled Fire Eagle application is very similar to building a traditional web-based application. In fact, the XMPP componentry is intended to complement an existing application, simplifying it and imbuing it with real-time capabilities.
