En conservant la structure des dossiers, enrichie d’une information contextuelle précise, l’une des belles démonstrations qu’apporte ce travail est de montrer combien le document photographique constitue la trace, moins du réel ou de la vérité des faits, que des déterminations imposées par les circonstances de la commande. Ce que la photographie constitue, dans chacun des contextes explorés, est très précisément la fiction attendue par le commanditaire.

I Don’t Know How I Resisted the Urge to Run

For a little while I had been taking pictures of objects, furniture, buildings and other things in my environment where I recognised, however abstract, a face.

In these films, illusions and expectations are challenged.

With no planning, we all started acting as if we were people in a real office. Almost immediately we began to adopt characters and send officious announcements. Soon we were referring to characters in the office who didn’t exist in real life. Meeting rooms were booked, couriers arrived, servers went down, timesheets were requested, and embarrassing emails were accidentally sent to everyone in the company.

By producing "6-D" images, an MIT professor and colleagues are creating unusually realistic pictures that not only have a full three-dimensional appearance, but also respond to their environment, producing natural shadows and highlights depending on the direction and intensity of the illumination around them.

Part of the elaborate Olympics fireworks show broadcast to the world in the opening ceremony was altered, done digitally in 3-D computer graphics, according to several news reports.

A wonderful instance of hybrid realities. Here, of course, the pixels are materialized through some medium that is not electronic and the hybridity is more about a semantic cross-over from pixel worlds of electronic games to the real world.
